Ann (Puehn) CARIER
CARIER - Ann (nee Puehn) Sadly, the loving family of Ann Puehn Carier announces her passing on July 6, 2011 from pulmonary fibrosis. Ann was born in Buffalo, NY, on March 13, 1934, to the late Carl A. Puehn and Isabelle (Dinsmore) Puehn. She attended Stella Niagara Seminary, Lewiston, NY, and graduated from Sisters of Charity Hospital School of Nursing, Buffalo, NY, in 1955. She was involved in nursing for over 40 years. Ann lived and raised her family in Gowanda, NY while working at Tri-County Memorial Hospital and also as an EMT for the Gowanda Ambulance Service. Her last nursing position was as a staff RN in Labor and Delivery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Carier, brothers, Rev. Christian J. Puehn, Carl A. Puehn, her granddaughter, Dr. Carrie E. John, and her best friend, Carol Ondus. Left to honor her memory are her children, Marianne (Rev. Daniel) Warnes of Charlotte, NC, Michael Paul of Columbia, SC, Dennis (Gina) Paul of Perrysburg, NY, and Maureen Wofford of Wilmington, NC; 2 step-children Edward J. Carier III (Debra) of Jacksonville, Fl., and Rebecca Carier; her grandchildren, Jennifer A. John of Winston-Salem, NC, Katherine G. Wofford and Haileigh E. Wofford, both of Wilmington, NC; Jessica Carier and Christian Carier of Jacksonville FL; a niece, Kristen (Jim) Federico and children from Duvall, WA; and closest friends, Beverly Barry, Seattle, WA, and Nancy Setlock, Phoenix, AZ. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. The family appreciates the care given by Lower Cape Fear Hospice Wilmington, NC and Palmetto Hospice, Columbia, SC, during her last months.
